Review- How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper
As the title suggests this is a fun, flirty book and is just what the doctor ordered to lift your spirits and giggle along to.
Mo is sharp and funny Southern women who packs up in the middle of the night and moves to Grundy Alaska to escape a broken engagement and her overbearing and completely bonkers hippy dippy parents. Grundy is so small that the arrival of a new female inhabitant is cause for celebration in the predominantly male town. As Mo is "reasonably attractive and has all her own teeth" she proves to be quite popular with the locals from Abner the 87 year old who promises that if she moves into his cabin "her feet will always be warm and the toilet seat with always be down" to Alan the local hot ranger. Not impressed initially however is Cooper the local very gruff and very buff alpha wolf in exile. Mo replaces the injured short order cook in the local diner/bar and starts to integrate herself into the local community and her relationship with Cooper progresses into a hot and steamy romance as she finds him naked on her doorstep having been caught in a bear trap whilst in wolf form.
I found this to be a great blend of comedy and paranormal romance, it reminded me very much of the programme Northern Exposure but funnier and with werewolves. It had so many great characters from Mo's hippy and over bearing mother who phones her at 3am every year on her birthday to tell her the story of her water birth in graphic detail to the local men in Grundy who offer a lady meat if they like her in a macho provider way, and the women who have to rename mini quiches "cheese pies" or the men wouldn't eat them. I thought Mo was a fantastic female lead- strong, sassy and funny I loved how she researched how to be a werewolf's girlfriend on the internet and bought books online about living with a werewolf.
Overall it was a really great book. It was loaded with hilarious characters, it had comedy, romance and a bit of mystery with rogue werewolf attacks on the locals and a great fight scene at the end. I enjoyed it so much that I immediately bought the second in the series The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf. 4 stars.
