Mini reviews: Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side & Jessica rules the dark side

I absolutely loved Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, it's hilariously funny and never takes itself too seriously.

Jessica is an average American teenager, her adoptive parents are eco-friendly vegans and she's the school mathlete. That is until the gorgeous, if slightly infuriating, Romanian "exchange student" Lucius Vladescu tells her she's not only a Romanian vampire princess but she's his long-lost fiance and he's here to arrange their betrothal and take her back to Romania.

By far my favourite parts were anything involving Lucius (I'm shallow I know) his sarcastic comments and hilarious letters to his uncle in Romania in which he tries to figure out all things American made me giggle throughout.

Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side is a fun read from start to finish. I loved it. 4.5 out of 5.

I thought Jessica Rules the Dark Side was a little slower than the first instalment. There's very little of Lucius in it (he's in his own dungeon prison accused of vampire murder) but I didn't mind in the slightest as I loved the Mindy Sue and Raniero story line. Mindy Sue is Jessica's BFF who comes over to Romania to help Jessica in her hour of need, bringing vital supplies of chocolate and hair product, and Raniero is Lucius's best man who just happens to be a vampire assassin turned pacifist beach bum. They hooked up at Jess and Lucius's wedding but Mindy Sue ditched him for being too much of a drifter and only owning 5 t-shirts, (one of which has a picture of a taco on it).

Jessica is forced to finally put her big girl pants on and man up, her transition from vampire princess to vampire queen is a difficult one and she never knows quite who to trust, but with the help of Raniero, Mindy Sue and Cosmo's problem page they work together to save Lucius from being destroyed forever.

Jessica Rules the Dark Side has all the humour of the first book, the emails between Lucius and Raniero made me laugh and Mindy Sue is quite honestly the best friend a girl could wish for, solving murders whilst wielding a hair dryer. 4 out of 5.
