My book of the month- Night Blade by J.C. Daniels and win a signed copy of Blade Song

Each month I highlight my book of the month, the book that I devoured, squeeeeed over, swooned over or cried buckets over the most.
This month I read quite a few amazing books but the stand out book for me has to be Night Blade the second book in J.C. Daniels (aka Shiloh Walker) Colbana Files series.
Weeks later I still can't get it out of my head. I was devastated by the last 30% of the book it was heart breaking, agonising, tragic, shocking and wonderful all rolled into one. You can check out my review here.

Colbana Files #2
J.C. Daniels
Publication date: 4th March 2013

Kit Colbana is always biting off more than she can chew. She has a knack for finding trouble. This time, though, trouble finds her. Someone from her past drops a case into her lap that she just can’t refuse…literally.

People on the Council are dying left and right and she’s been requested to investigate the deaths. The number one suspect? Her lover, Damon. If she doesn’t clear his name, he gets a death sentence. Even if she succeeds? They still might try to execute him. Oh, and she’s not allowed to tell him about the case, either.

The stakes are high this time around, higher than they’ve ever been. Kit may be forced to pay the ultimate price to save her lover’s life…a price that could destroy her and everything she loves.

Some of the other books I’ve been reading this month

I don’t always review every book I’ve read, but that doesn’t mean I’ve not enjoyed it! So I figured I would post a little mini round up of some of some of the other books I've read this month. I'm a big fan of Entangled Publishing’s Brazen line of contemporary romances, I love the distinctive covers and always add every new ebook to my "must buy" list.

17413427Protecting What’s His
Line of Duty #1
Tessa Bailey
Publication date: 23rd February 2013

She’s running from the law, and the law wants her bad.

The opportunity was just too damn delicious for Ginger Peet to pass up. The purse full of money she finds—$50,000 to be exact—could give her and her teen sister the new start they need. So she grabs the cash, her gothy sibling, and their life-sized statue of Dolly Parton, and blows outta Nashville in a cloud of dust. Chicago, here we come...

Turns out, Chicago has some pretty hot cops. Hot, intense, naughty-lookin’ cops like Derek Tyler, who looks like he could eat a girl up and leave her begging for more. And more. Tempting as he is, getting involved with the sexy homicide lieutenant next door poses a teensy problem for a gal who’s on the lam. But one thing is certain—Derek’s onto her, and he wants more than just a taste.

And as far as he’s concerned, possession is nine-tenths of the law.

I really enjoyed Protecting What's His, Derek is all alpha male and grrrrrrr and Ginger is the older sister you can't help but admire and fall in love with. Ginger has brought her teenage sister up by herself sacrificing everything to ensure she doesn't have the same crappy upbringing she had. On the run from her horrendous mother Ginger really doesn't want to attract the attention of the bossy, suspicious and intense cop Derek but that's exactly what she's done.

Their romance is out of this world fantastic, you really need to check out Derek's dirty talking it's worth the price of the ebook alone. I'll definitely be adding Tessa Bailey to my contemporary romance author's to watch out for list. You need to read it!! 4 out of 5.

Maverick Montana #1
Rebecca Zanetti
Publication date: 25th March 2013
Never challenge a cowboy in the courtroom…

Surveying the proposed site for a high-end golf course should have been a breeze for spunky Landscape Architect Sophie Smith. But when this born-and-bred city girl is suddenly—and quite literally—swept off her feet by a sexy cowboy on horseback, she realizes that the country life has some serious (and seriously steamy!) possibilities. That is, until she finds out exactly who her smokin’-hot wrangler really is.

Cowboy and Tribal lawyer Jack Lodge is desperately trying to block the development. And if that means playing hardball—and being every inch the shark lawyer—so be it. But Sophie is a distraction he didn’t expect. A distraction that makes his blood burn.

Two different worlds. Two opposing sides. And when they finally give into the exquisite temptation, the consequences will shake the foundations of both of their lives..

I  love a good small town cowboy hero contemporary romance, add in the fact that Jack is also a hot shot lawyer and single dad then I'm guaranteed to give Rebecca Zanetti's Against the Wall a go.

Although I did enjoy the romance it was all a little bit rushed for me and I thought the ending was maybe a bit too convenient. The whole surprise baby=guaranteed HEA doesn't always work for me. 3 out of 5.
chasing mrs rightChasing Mrs Right
Come Undone #2
Katee Robert
Publication date: 25th March 2013

It was only supposed to last one night...

Ian had no idea the sexy woman he took to his bed was his little sister's best friend--or that she'd refuse to give him more than one night.

Good thing this soldier likes a challenge...

I loved the first instalment in Katee Robert's Come Undone series Wrong Bed Right Guy and enjoyed this one too but overall it was more of a like rather than love kind of book for me.

Chasing Mrs Right's hero Ian is ex-military and finding it difficult to adjust to civilian life and Roxanne doesn't believe that love can last so they both have real issues and demons to deal with before they can commit to each other.

Although their chemistry was good I felt that I didn't quite 100% connect with them both, I was a bit conflicted with Chasing Mrs Right although I wanted the damaged hero to be saved by the love of a good woman and I wanted the commitment phobia heroine to find her Mr Right I also wanted them maybe to have to work a little bit harder at getting their much deserved HEA. For me, the story kind of it ran out of steam towards the end which was a real shame. In saying that, I liked it enough that I'll still give the next book in the series a go. 3.5 out of 5.

Review: Short Rides by Lorelei James

ShortRides (1)Short Rides
Rough Riders #14.5
Lorelei James
Publication date: 8th April 2013
Reviewed by Lesley

I love Lorelei James's Rough Rider's series, usually in a long running series I've given up on it by book five or six, which shows how amazing this series is as I still fourteen books on count down the days until the next release. Jack and Keely have always been my favourite couple in the series so Short Rides was absolutely full of win for me as I got another little peek into their HEA.

Not only is Keely the only female in the never ending cowboytastic and devastatingly hawt McKay & West family tree she's feisty, headstrong and has made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion. Keeley met her match with Jack in All Jacked Up and we find her pregnant, a little bit hormonal, a little bit crazy and making Jack suffer no end in All Knocked Up which was for me, the stand out story in Short Rides. I loved it! I felt so sorry for poor Jack, and laughed along at Keely's mood swings and their little shock or two along the way made my heart melt. I couldn't have asked for anything more and would love, love, love a similar catch up for each of the other McKay's and West's (pretty please Lorelei????)

Fans of the series will also love catching up with Cam in King of Hearts and Ed, Trevor and Chassie in Rough Road. If you haven't read this series yet I would recommend starting right at the beginning with Long Hard Ride and sit back and enjoy every single book in this cowboytastic contemporary romance series.

New books and what's on my TBR list this week

Hi everyone!
I got two new books this week for review:
Stung by Bethany Wiggins
Transcendence by C.J. Omololu
and three audio books
 Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers
Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill
Rush by Maya Banks

I had a loooong train journey to Aberdeen during the week so managed to get in a good bit of reading in a week where I've had no time or energy to blog, write reviews or faff about on Facebook.
Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost was fantastic, I was a bit underwhelmed by the first book in the series Once Burned but Twice Tempted more than made up for it. Gone With the Wolf by Kristin Miller was okish and Stranded with a Billionaire was good fun and flirty.
This week I'm planning on catching up with Jennifer Estep's fantastic Elemental Assassin series. I have Widow's Web and Deadly Sting poised and ready to be read.

Thanks to everyone who entered my Amanda Carlson giveaway.

The winner is...
I've sent you an email Heather:)

New books and what's on my TBR list

Hey everyone, I hope you had a good week!
Here's what I got this week:

From Net galley
Down London Road by Samantha Young
Femme Fatale by Cindy Dees
Gone with the Wolf by Kristin Miller

 Kindle books
Werewolves be dammed by Stacey Kennedy- this has been on my wish list for ages so I bought it, then realised it's on Net Galley and even worse I then read a few reviews that say it's a bit meh. I'm so disappointed and have thrown it to end of my TBR list in a bit of a huff.
Touch Me by Olivia Cunning- I love her rock star books.
The Seduction by Lisa Renee Jones- I read and loved Being Me the second book in the trilogy so I had to buy this.
The Proposition by Jennifer Lyon- A review from Mandi at Smexy Books convinced me.
Stranded with a Billionaire by Jessica Clare- I've had my eye on this for ages. I do love a billionaire.
Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder- I read a little review at The Sweet Bookshelf that made me dash to Amazon.

I read this week:

Down London Road by Samantha Young which was A-MAZ-ING as was Being Me by Lisa Renee Jones. I love a good cowboy romance and Lorelei James always delivers so I read both Short Rides and Kissin' Tell.

 I'm planning to read

I just started Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost and I have Touch of Power winking at me from my bedside table telling me to read it next.
I went with my dinosaur obsessed 7 year old daughter to see Walking with Dinosaurs. It was out of this world fantastic, we had a ball. I had bought 2 tickets for the Saturday morning show and then won 2 tickets for the Friday night show and a backstage tour!
This is Erin with the Triceratops.
We've both kept our backstage pass badges, Erin's taking hers to school on Monday and I'm taking mine to work!

My favourite badass biker books

I have a deep love for badass biker books. Some may say I'm obsessed, they would be right because I am. It all started with Kristen Ashley's Motorcycle man and before I knew it I was trawling Goodreads for hours looking for books with tattooed, Harley riding, macho hero's. I love my badass bikers to be all alpha male, to be a bit of rough and of course I want them to be saved by the love of a good woman. In the name of research *coughs* I've listed a couple of my favourites so far. I now have a special badass biker TBR list on Goodreads and most of the books on my list I've been able to snap up as kindle bargains (bonus points for cheap books!). Enjoy!
Tack is so completely grrrrrrrrr. I've crowned him President of my favourite badass biker's. He's gruff, says "babe" waaaay too much but he's all heart and loves his kids something fierce. Kristen Ashley's Motorcycle Man remains my favourite Kristen Ashley book EVER.
A spin off series from the wonderful Motorcycle Man, Kristen Ashley proves that she creates the best badass bikers EVER! Own the Wind's Parker "Shy" Cage is just to die for he loves the biker lifestyle, loves the club but he loves Tack's daughter Tabby even more and that's what gets him bonus "swoonage" points as far as I'm concerned. I can't wait for the next instalment in this series.
Reaper's Property is one of those guilty pleasure books that I read for fun and didn't intend to review or think about again. But OMG I could not get Horse (yes, his nickname is Horse) out of my brain. He's a very, very, very BADASS biker. He's crude, possessive and domineering but you will totally 100% fall under his spell. When I finished this book I frantically searched out even more badass bikers to fall in love with. Reaper's Property is not to be missed.
Hot Ride by Kelly Jamieson has both the heat of a badass biker and his biker chic and a fantastic keep you on your toes romantic suspense element. Both the hero and the heroine are undercover trying to bring a motorcycle club down. I really enjoyed Hot Ride's edge of the seat thriller story and the very hot scenes between Ryan and Sara. Hot Ride is well worth a read.

Eva and Deuce's love story was of epic proportions spanning over 30 years of their lives. At times I hated the hero Deuce and I mean really hated him and then I loved him again. Undeniable is a car crash of a book full of emotional highs and some very serious lows (Frankie, OMG I can't even begin to describe some of the things he did) but it kept me reading to the very last page. At times emotional and down right harrowing this is a badass biker book that demands all of your attention.

I love Julie Ann Walker's Black Knights, Inc series
(click on the picture for my reviews, beware there's an excessive amount of swooning involved)

Other badass biker books I've got on my TBR list

I love Jaci Burton's Play-by-play series her sports heroes are always to die for so I'm definitely up for trying her Wild Riders series.

I have Mara McBain's Trinity Falls series on my kindle, it came highly recommended.
It's billed as "a tale of justice, brotherhood, and family, and one man's struggle to stay true to each."
Detective Zeke Brawer has badass biker stamped all over him.

Maegan Lynn Moores Ride series has also been highly recommended to me.
Ryder Wilde (classic badass biker name) is a local bar owner and president of Mayhem motorcycle club and falls hard for teacher Ella Scott. The second book Sweet Ride is due out soon.

Knight in Black Leather is another kindle bargain I picked up I liked the sound of the "younger biker meets older heroine" twist.
Lone Rider apparently has a great badass biker hero.

A badass biker and rock stars series? Seriously I want!
Bec Botefuhr's Biker Rockstar series sound like it was written just for me.

Sometimes badass biker book covers are pretty naff but when I read the blurbs I almost forgive them. Almost.

If you have any other badass biker books to recommend feel free to give me a shout.
