New books

Hey everyone, I've been missing in action over the last week or two laid low with some kind of never ending throat bug. I've hardly even read a book never mind blogged but I've now finished up for the summer holidays so I'm hoping to get caught up on reading and reviewing before I head off to the sun. So here's the new books I got over the last few weeks:
 For review
An Endless Summer by c.j. duggan
Insert giant squeeeeeee here!
This is the second book in c.j's Summer series and it is gooooood.
I bought
Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh
I have every single book Nalini Singh has written on my real keeper shelf so I was really disappointed that her UK book signing was going to be in London only. However, the lovely people at Forbidden Planet had some signed books for sale and although it's not personalised I had to buy one. I'm hoping I get to meet her one day.

Shadow and Bone and Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
I loved Shadow and Bone (you can check out my review here) but didn't have a physical copy of my own so when Siege and Storm was released I bought both of them.
For review
The Arrivals by Melissa Marr
Love in Revolution by B.R. Collins
From Net Galley
 Elysian Fields by Suzanne Johnson
Never Deal with Dragons by Lorenda Christensen
Lick by Kylie Scott

Kindle bargains

I'm powerless to resist those kindle bargains, Defiance is just calling to me!

Review: Surrender Your Love and Conquer Your Love by J.C. Reed

Surrender Your Love
Surrender Your Love #1
J.C. Reed
Publication date: 15th March 2013

Realtor Brooke Stewart is sent to rural Italy to meet and work with her new boss finalising a big real estate deal, what Brooke doesn't realise is that her new boss is also the incredibly gorgeous guy she recently had a one night stand with. Jett Mayfield is the kind of guy who always gets what he wants so he proposes a no strings attached, uncomplicated, sexual relationship during their Italian visit and independent and commitment phobic Brooke agrees to take him up on his generous offer. Back in the States after their two weeks together in Italy Jett decides he wants to continue his relationship with Brooke and Brooke manages to put aside her commitment issues and enter into a real relationship with Jett.

Up until this point I was happily going with the flow and really quite enjoying Jett and Brooke's little romance. As an eternal romantic myself, I love when commitment phobic alpha males change their ways and fall head over heels with their smart and independent heroines so Surrender Your Love was ticking all the boxes for me. And then bam! a gigantic twist in the plot that I honestly never saw coming and left me absolutely reeling. By the end of Surrender Your Love I was shocked, completely stunned and quite pissed off at Jett he really has a lot of explaining to do.

Was I invested enough to want to pick up the next instalment? Good God YES! So, if you're on the lookout for a great contemporary romance with a little edge of mystery and a torturous cliff hanger ending that will leave you begging for more then I thoroughly recommend you also pick up J.C. Reed's Surrender Your Love.

Thank goodness I didn't have to wait too long for the second instalment in J.C. Reed's Surrender Your Love series. The first book had a huge cliffhanger ending and a mystery of epic proportions that had me adding a date to my diary to buy Conquer Your Love on the very day it was released. Was it worth it? Hmmmm  sort of...

Brooke is devastated by what she sees as Jett's betrayal and tells him that their relationship is over, Jett being Jett however, didn't get this memo and goes hell for leather to win Brooke back. At this point I was firmly on Brooke's side and liked that she had called time on their relationship to sort her head and heart out. This however didn't exactly last very long though which disappointed me a bit if I'm honest. Brooke is portrayed as almost powerless to resist Jett and she therefore seemed less like the feisty female character I loved in Surrender Your Love. I think I wanted Brooke to make him work for it a bit more if you know what I mean!

Jett does however eventually redeem himself when his protective, slightly darker, alpha male side comes very much to the forefront which won him a tonne of bonus points from me and by the end of Conquer Your Love he was firmly back in my good books again. Be prepared to still be guessing about the mystery of the estate and Brooke's inheritance, there are still a lot of unanswered questions which guarantees that I'll be buying the final book in the trilogy Treasure Your Love when it's released in September.

New books and what's on my TBR list

Hey everyone, apologies that I haven't been posting much recently I've been taking advantage of the good weather we've been having in Scotland because it happens so infrequently! So here's the books I've got over the last three weeks:
I bought
Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh. As you know I ADORE Nalini's Psy-Changeling series and have been counting down the days to Heart of Obsidian's release to finally find out who the Ghost is. I read it in about 2 days and loved every freaking minute of it.
Kindle goodies

For review
Playing the Part by Robin Covington
From Net Galley

I haven't read as much as I would have liked to over the last week or two.
Spartan Frost was a bit disappointing, Playing the Part was very steamy and Flirting with Disaster had a fantastic hero that was to die for my reviews will be up soonish.

Heart of Obsidian, what can I say? It was AMAZING, Nalini Singh is a genius and it is now my favourite book of the series which is pretty good going for book number twelve in a series.
I also loved Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley. The second book in her Chaos series was even better than the first book, my review should be up soonish.
I'm planning to read some of my Net Galley books this week, I've only got two weeks of work left before I stop for the summer holidays so I really hope to finally decide what books are coming with me to Tenerife.

My favourite Rock Star books

Fans und Scheinwerfer
I’m a complete sucker for contemporary romance books that have a rock star as the hero. There’s something about talented tattooed rock stars with a bad boy edge that has me swooning big time. I love all the drama, the adoring crowds and the promise of a rock god falling hard for his unlikely heroine. So I thought I would post some of my all time favourites for your reading pleasure.
My all time favourites

One of my all time favourite rock star books is Samantha Towle's The Mighty Storm which was so good I bought a paper copy to keep on my real keeper shelf after devouring my kindle copy. Jake is a tattooed rock star with a bad boy reputation until his childhood BFF Tru comes to interview him. He let Tru go once but is determined to keep her in his life this time, however there's one problem, Tru already has a boyfriend...
Strangers by Barbara Elsborg is one of my favourite "After Midnight" books, you know that book that you just couldn't put down and stayed up way past midnight to finish? Yep, that was Strangers but it was so worth it! If you are looking for a rock star romance with a British sense of humour then you should definitely check Strangers out. I loved Charlie and even had a book boyfriend post all about him but it was the heroine Kate that really made the book for me. It's a must read.

My favourite rock star series
Olivia Cunning is the Queen of Rock Star books as far as I'm concerned, her Sinner's on Tour series was one of my first rock star reads in fact, Rock Hard the second book in the Sinners series is still one of my all time favourites.

Olivia Cunning also has another really good Rock Star series called One Night with Sole Regret.

New addition to my list
You can check out my review of Blind Attraction by Eden Summers here.
YA Rock Stars
My favourite YA-ish Rock Star books are If I Stay and Where She Went by Gayle Forman, both had me bawling my eyes out and ringing out my hankies.

I also recommend Amplified by Tara Kelly, Sean aka Clover the bassist is a bit grumpy at first but he definitely grew on me.

 Favourite" sort of" series
Lauren Dane's Brown Siblings and spin off Delicious series have a few really amazing rock star romances. First up is Laid Bare which is Erin the bassist's story and a few books down the line is my favourite Never Enough which is Adrian's book and in Lush we get to meet Damien who has a reputation as a lady killer but was actually quite sweet.

Some other rock star series well worth a read
 Clara Bayard's Rocked series

Michelle A. Valentine's Black Falcon series

S.C. Stephen's Thoughtless series

I have about four bazillion rock star reads sitting on my TBR list, I've even got a special shelf on Goodreads for them all.

Feel free to give me any more rock star recommendations!
